When I first got into couponing I went and bought every great deal I could find and stocked up on everything, including 7 bottles (Yes, 7!) bottles of Windex Glass Cleaner. I know....it is a lifetime supply of Windex, especially for slacker me with my windows. I have gotten better, believe me!! But, when I first got married someone gave me a bucket of cleaning supplies with a bottle of Glass Cleaner and the recipe to make it again. I found the recipe today and wanted to post it for everyone.
I really liked this recipe, I didn't notice any real difference between the Windex and the homemade cleaner (except the color) and it was nice to know EXACTLY what was in the bottle. And even better, it is AMAZINGLY CHEAP, like less than $.25 a bottle!
Homemade Window Cleaner
1 cup rubbing alcohol
1/4 tsp. Dawn dishwashing liquid (I'm sure you could use any brand and it would be fine.)
2 cups water
Pour all ingredients together into a spray bottle and shake to combine. That's it!

Has anybody ever used a homemade window cleaner before? Or does anyone have any other homemade cleaning products that they would like to share. Leave me a comment or email me at iamafrugalone(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll post about it!

Thanks so much for this cleaning recipe, I can't wait to try it! I do have a homemade "recipe"... not technically a cleaner, but it's a fun one. I just made home made bubble bath for the first time... here's the recipe... http://frugalgirls.blogspot.com/2009/01/bubble-bath-recipe.html
Erin I have been trying to put your frugal on my computer and it is not working?
I just blogged about Homemade Laundry Detergent! Here's the link: http://oneacrehomestead.blogspot.com/2009/02/homemade-laundry-detergent.html
Heidi and One Acre Homestead: Thanks for the great links. I will definitely have to do the homemade bubble bath.
Susy: Have you looked at the "Share" tab at the top of the blog. It helps to explain how to add the button to a blogspot page. Hope this helps. email me at iamafrugal(at)gmail(got)com if you need any more help.
Erin
I am Frugal
When I am washing exterior windows, I definitely use homemade cleaner, if you can call it that. I add a quarter or perhaps half cup of ammonia to about a gallon of water and wash with a sponge. Then squeegee windows dry and soak up any remaining droplets with crumpled newspaper. I would be hard to justify pouring a gallon of Windex into a bucket and perhaps even needing a second batch for a big job.
I've tried a similar homemade window cleaner and they really do work. I like the ones that use all vinegar and baking soda. Thanks for sharing with us.
