Why I've Been Gone

I have had quite a few emails the past couple of days from readers wondering if I am all right. I want to thank everyone for their concern and let you all know that I am totally fine I have just been EXTREMELY busy the past week.

With the Easter Holiday and family coming into town that we haven't seen since Christmas we have been spending a lot of time away from home and things are going to just be getting crazier. Right now we have family in town, next week my husband graduates with his bachelors and the day after he graduates we are leaving for 9 days to go on a CRUISE!! This has been a VERY long awaited vacation and I am counting down the days! But, as soon as we get back we will pretty much be broke and without a job!! Thank goodness for big tax returns and my couponing skills! :) My husband works on campus for BYU and since he will no longer be a student he will no longer be working for BYU. So the job search begins for this next year while we wait to start Law school.

So, as of now I will be busy helping my hubby look for a job as well as help him study for the LSAT which he will be taking in June. I also have been looking into some different programs and schools and have been considering going back to school to get my Masters. I NEVER thought I would want to go back to school but here I am wishing I could go back!! I still am not sure if I will or not but we joke around that me, my hubby, and two kids could all pack our school lunches together in the morning and head off to school together! :)

We have multiple different vacations and family reunions for the next couple of months so I have decided instead of worrying and fretting about making sure that I have a post up everyday while trying to get everything else done I am going to STOP doing the "I Am Frugal" blog for a time.

When I started the "I am Frugal" blog I was in a "season" of life where I NEEDED something to do at home while I was home with the kids all day. "I am Frugal" became my "Out." I feel, at least for the next couple of months, that a new season has begun and I need to make some changes and new priorities for me and my little family.

I have LOVED doing this blog and have learned so much about all of my different readers, saving money, how computers work :) and so many other things that I'm excited to look into and learn more about. I have even considered looking into taking some classes about online marketing or web design for the future!

For now, I am saying Goodbye to "I am Frugal." Maybe someday I will start it up again and hopefully find some of you great people again. Until then, thank you for your wonderful encouraging comments and the great tips and help you have given to me to make posting on this blog a lot easier!

I was recently contacted by a Jiffy Lube representative about some great money saving tips with our cars and wanted to share. I don't know if I've mentioned on this blog yet, but in 3 weeks I am going on a Cruise with my hubby for a week to celebrate his graduation and our 5 year anniversary, I am EXTREMELY excited! We will be gone 8 days and to save a couple hundred dollars we have chosen to drive to our port in LA. Plus, I LOVE road trips!! I didn't really go on them as a kid so now I LOVE any chance I get for a good long road trip. Give me a book of Sudoku puzzles, apple juice, some great music and I'm set!

TIPS TO SAVE MONEY AT THE PUMP

We can shave off dollars every day by doing little things. The tips below from the car-care experts at Jiffy Lube will not only help keep your vehicle in top shape – helping to avoid potentially costly breakdowns in the future – and put a few dollars back in your pocket.

Engine Air Filter:
An air filter is essentially your vehicle’s lung. A clean air filter helps the engine “breathe” and run more efficiently, while a clogged one makes the engine work harder. According to the Federal Government, replacing a clogged air filter can improve your car’s gas mileage by as much as 10%. Check your vehicle owner’s manual for when to replace your engine air filter.

Tires:
Tires can be gas bandits as under-inflated tires create extra friction where the rubber meets the road. Incorrectly inflated tires also wear unevenly, which can impact your vehicle’s traction on the road and possibly lead to a dangerous blowout. According to the Federal Government, you can improve your gas mileage by around 3.3% by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. You can find your vehicle’s recommended tire pressure information in the vehicle owner’s manual or often on a decal typically in the vehicle’s door jamb or in the vehicle owner’s manual.

Oil Grade:
Motor oil lubricates the engine, keeping it cool and reducing friction between moving parts. As the motor oil circulates, it also cleans away harmful dirt and contaminants. When motor oil gets too dirty, it loses some of its lubrication and absorption abilities. According to the Federal Government, using your vehicle owner’s manual recommended grade oil can improve your gas mileage up to 2% -- savings which can add up over time! Refer to your vehicle owner’s manual for the correct grade of motor oil for your vehicle.

Lighten Your Load:
Extra weight means more strain on your vehicle and more fuel burn. According to the Federal Government, vehicle drag can decrease your vehicle’s fuel efficiency by 2%. Leave unnecessary items at home before setting out on a drive.

Avoid Aggressive Driving:
According to the Federal Government, rapid acceleration/braking can lower your gas mileage up to 5% around town.

Carpooling:
Taking advantage of carpools could cut your weekly gas usage in half. Not only will mom save a few bucks, but she’ll get some much-needed time back!

Update: I've had a few people email me telling me they are having trouble printing this coupon off. From what I have heard on other websites they are having some problems as well, saying the coupon is not available right now or it going very slow. All I can say is be patient and maybe check back again on it later. I don't have a working printer right now (my little girl shoved an apple in it and broke it, Crazy girl!!) so I can't check to see if it is working.

Also, I've gotten a few emails about this being a sweepstakes coupon. As far as I understand from others that have been posting about this coupon is that this is just a coupon put out by SmartSource. Walgreens: Possible money-maker on Dove Soap Bars

Walgreens usually has their Dove Single Bars of Soaps for around $1.59 each. If you buy 8 of the Single soap bars and use the $.99 in-ad coupon from this weeks paper it should take off $.60 per bar of soap. This means you would pay around $7.92 plus tax for all 8 bars and then you would get a $10 register reward back, making a profit of about $2.

Note: this may not work for everyone. The in-ad coupon says there is a limit of 3 but some Walgreens will allow you to get as many as you want with the in-ad coupon. If this is not the case then your deal would turn out a little more differently and you would be able to get 8 bars for around $12.72 and then the in-ad coupon would allow for 3 of your bars to have $.60 taken off of them. You would pay about $10.92 out of pocket and then still get a $10 register reward back. You would get 8 bars of soap for under a $1 after the in-ad coupon and register reward, which is still a GREAT deal in my books!

Update: It looks like a few people have emailed me telling me that this movie was priced for $20 at their local Walmart NOT the $10 that I had heard about. Sorry about the misunderstanding. Some of you may still be able to get the $10 price and get this movie for free, while others still may have to pay $10 total for the DVD, which is still a great deal to me!
Walmart has High School Musical 3 priced for around $10 right now. There is a $5 printable HERE as well as a mail in rebate for $5 HERE. To use the Mail in Rebate you have to buy the DVD, 1 Sara Lee bread product and 1 Hillshire Farms lunchmeat. The Mail in Rebate is an online pdf and you DO NOT need to buy all three items at the same time. So you can buy them at different times and save your reciepts.

This makes the DVD FREE after Mail in Rebate, Awesome!

I don't know if you guys have noticed this little link on the left hand side of my blog or not but I wanted to explain a little about FreeStuff4Free.com. This is a great website I found a while back that posts freebies that are going around on the internet. I often go to their website to find some freebies to post on my own website to share with everyone and really like how they have set up their freebies by categories to find what you want fast. They also have a featured website section that informs you about other websites that are informative about ways to save money, and live on less than you make. Right now I am one of the featured websites for a short time, so I feel pretty special! :)

FreeStuff4Free.com was started by two friends who realized there were many great ways to save money on the Internet. They started searching for the best freebies online. Naturally, their friends wanted to know about them as well, so whenever a good freebie was found they would email it to their friends. After spending hours a day scouring the internet they finally decided to create a website so that everyone would have access to these freebies they were collecting, which is now known as FreeStuff4Free.com.

They are now giving away prizes every month to subscribers of their daily newsletter, last month it was a $25 iTunes gift card. You can subscribe to their website for free and they will send you a MAXIMUM of one email a day on a recent freebie so you don't get bombarded with emails from them.
